Athletes and Entrepreneurship w/ Desireé Melfi Bozzo
Successful athletes and entrepreneurs both love to hustle, which is why I was so impressed with Michigan State University’s Entrepreneurial Training Camp initiative for their student athletes. In this episode of the podcast, I interviewed Desireé Melfi Bozzo who is the mastermind behind this MSU program.
Desireé Melfi Bozzo is the Student Success & Advising Manager of the Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Michigan State University. She is also an instructor on the entrepreneurial mindset and an entrepreneur herself. The Entrepreneurship Training Camp was designed with three goals in mind: sharpening the Entrepreneurial Mindset, infusing business acumen and exposing student-athletes to the venture creation process. We hope this interview gives athletes the confidence to take that first step toward becoming entrepreneurs.
Below are some topics we cover during the interview:
How Desireé’s previous work experience influenced her current role.
The inspiration behind the creation of the course “A Sprint Through the Entrepreneurial Mindset and the training camp.
Components that make up the Entrepreneurial Mindset.
Problem Solving
Value Creation
Marshalling of Resources
Infusing Business Acumen (How so?)
Venture Creation Process (What is the process?)
Skill’s athletes will acquire during the training camp and how these skills translate to their lives.
Why the skills that make great entrepreneurs also make great humans.
Thinking differently
Establishing Connections
Taking action
Pivoting powerfully
Building personal brand
Marketing yourself
Questions to ask that help students make choices in major selection.
